The Fat Kid

The Fat Kid

I'm the first one i class,

as always.

The desk in the back

calls my name.

I hurry and squeeze in

before anyone sees me struggling,

my legs pinched into each crease,

my waist screaming in pain.

I brace myself.

I know the others will be here soon

with the word of the day:

FATTY.

My name is Willamina,

but they wouldn't know.

To them,

I'm just a joke

To them,

I'm just some form of amusement.

To them,

I'm nothing.

As they start to pile into the classroom,

I cling to my desk with my head hanging low.

I begin to weep

because I know

that to them,

I'll always be

just the fat kid.
