Father Daughter Dance

Father Daughter Dance

I raised you up
I showed you love
And the day has come
To give you away

You just got married
And I remember
Long ago when you picked berries
You'd bring them to your mother

But now it's time
To make new memories
With your lover

So even though I don't dance
I'll do it for you
And then turn you over
Like fathers do

I may be afraid
That you'll run away
But I want you to be happy
Even if it's not just me
That can hold you in someone's arms

So I get up
And take your hand
For the father daughter dance

Caught in my mind
I remember the time
You had to cry
I was by your side

But I snap back
And the lights turn down low
And the music starts to slow

You hold me tight
But I know
I have to let you go

So our hands slip away
And for some reason
I'm not so worried
