Father Out

Father Out

Daddy dear
never here

road trip
mercenary

parenting
in absentia

just a voice
on the line

Novelty fades
over time

postcards
tossed aside

Saint Mom
preached
how much
he loved us

from the
hymn book of
economic necessity

We grew up
because we had to

Moved out

and started
our own
shattered families

Daddy's
home now

Died alone

in his
hotel bed

the maid
found him dead

Gonna bury
our ghost Dad today

along with all
his lost
yesterdays
