Poem -

Feathers

Feathers

The day of the Heron
Dawned bright and blue
Gentle waves breaking in Autumns hue
Seaweed crunching underfoot

We didn't see him at first
Only the beautiful  feathers
Blown along the beach
By the Northerly winds

You bent to retrieve 2 exquisite feathers
Long and proud
The Life lived permeating those  now  seemingly lifeless things
What Grace and beauty in a Herons wings

On our return journey
We saw him there
Resting in the sands so bare
As if he didn't have a care

Long translucent  beak
Head at rest after his long ocean journey
His final resting place
On this North Atlantic shore

I hung up his feathers in my kitchen.
Graceful explorer of the waters
May your spirit now rest at Peace in all weathers
Respectfully Yours.
