It was always the women
Fire and Ice
Warrior women heads in scarves

Tough women
With shopping bags
On buses. I remember the buses

We travelled far A platoon of us
Boiled white socks and
Polished shoes
Reputations

Social rules.

To make a pound
Boiled the nappies counted
heads
Used their coats
