First of December

First of December

It’s five in the morning

Sleeps left my eyes

Dawn not yet broken

Dark fills the sky

Mind swims with thoughts

Of the day yet to fall

November now over

Christmas near calls

Mince pies to cook

Mulled wine to make

Visitors travel

As day starts to break

Family tradition

Siblings to see

Time once again

To put up the tree

Lights from the loft

Tested and tried

Angel unboxed

To place on the spire

Tinsel untangled

Baubles unwrapped

Drawing pins found

Decorations intact

Children excited

Decembers now here

Writing wish lists

As they do every year

Decorations now up

Tree all aglow

Everyone sings

Around the piano

Night starts to fall

Dark fills the sky

Festivities started

Now Christmas is nigh

The house all lit up

With trimmings and lights

For Santa to find

On Christmas Eve Night
