I fished you in
I threw you back
I fished you in
I threw you back
this went on for years
until the day
I threw you in
and this time you swam away...
I do hope
you live happily ever after
I really do.

I love this Shirley. For me it is open to interpretation. It could be as it reads and you caught the same fish every year, threw it back, then one year it swam away. Which, let's be honest, is a nice, uplifting story.
Or it could be a metaphor and the fish could be human. Now that puts an altogether different slant on it. The last three lines lead me to the latter of the two interpretations but then again might you not say that to a familiar fish?
Right I think I know which interpretation I prefer. Love the line - "and this time you swam away." 🌹
Oh Bernie your reviews are worth gold, indeed the eyes of the reader must see, and yes both ways is excellently explained in your review, a way of explaining my first love and of course catching fish with a rod. Thank you so very much. 🌹 Moreover it doesn't all have to end so bad we can still let go with respect and positivity.
We can Shirley, we can. Thank you so much for your comment. I am as ever humbled by your reaction. 🌹
Bloody love this one...ha...brutal honest and lusciously indifferent!! Love the ending!! X
