Florence

Up until some days ago, the name Florence was dear to my artistic heart;
For since the early Renaissance, it’s been a World center for fine art!
The greatest masters of the day, all came there to learn and work;
Painters, Sculptors, and fine Goldsmiths, from each other got their perks!

But today this name brings horror, for it’s a killer without mercy;
Bearing down on the Carolinas, as heartless as can be!
It’s already killed eleven people, I fear that number will rise;
I see rescued folks with homes destroyed, such teardrops in their eyes!

Brave men and women now risk their lives, to save periled people poor;
Who could not afford to evacuate, as “Florence” down on them bore!
No one knows when it will clear, they hope a few more days;
No one knows about the rivers, and how high they’re going to raise!

Please help these needy people, and donate to their cause;
There are several new relief funds, do it now, and do not pause!
Our fellow Americans need us, let us all step up to the plate;
And show what we are made of, show what makes America so great!

                           But it cannot destroy us
                                  If we all pitch in
