Poem -

The Flower

Wandering the streets in no direction

People crowd the roads in every section

I look up from the cracks in the concrete

And stare at the only quiet store on the street

I’m pulled forward and open the door to peer inside

Not a flicker of movement on either side

I look over my shoulder and see the city

No one looks up or notices me

I let the door swing shut now stuck in the room

It’s empty except for one flower that blooms

The walls are white without any windows

There’s no sound except for my breathing that echoes

I walk up to the flower coming out of the floor

The petals have red tips and are purple in the core

It billows out and is like nothing I’ve ever seen

It has a beauty to it that’s so pure and clean

I bend down and carefully reach out

But hold back from a sudden feeling of doubt

But I shake the feeling away and caress the stem

And suddenly I’m transported to a whole new realm

I shoot up in the sky and soar through the stars

And from the Earth I feel so far

I forget who I am and I dream of peace

I feel one with nature and I feel so free

I’m filled with a passion of the greatest feeling ever

Losing track of time from a minute to forever

Then I let go of the flower and drop back in my own head

I scramble out the door back to the throng of people ahead

I turn my head around to look back at the magical store

And find only grass growing where it once was before.

War

Children are running in despair

As gunpowder starts to fill the air

We watch it happen...
