War

Children are running in despair
As gunpowder starts to fill the air
We watch it happen everywhere
Losing things that were once held with care
Our people cry for the fight
Leaving their homes and leaving the light
Families start to break
With every other life we take.
Why are we hiding in desperate fear
Why can’t I wake up when death is near
Children crying all around
Ringing ears after every gunshot sound
War and blood and chaos has come
Humans don’t notice what they’ve done
What has happened to us?
I don’t know how to call it off
I know my actions alone aren’t enough
I’m watching the Earth crumble before my eyes
I can see the black clouds stumble through the skies
People fight what they don’t understand
A red haze starts to cover the land
It becomes a battlefield with nowhere to hide
As the sun goes down and Hell starts to rise.
Why are we hiding in desperate fear
Why can’t I wake up when death is near
Children crying all around
Ringing ears after every gunshot sound
War and blood and chaos has come
Humans don’t notice what they’ve done
What has happened to us?
I look at the captives sitting around
They’re huddled together gagged and bound
Their skin falls loosely off their body
Starving and homeless with their faces muddy
I look at the cruelty of my own kind
There is always that dark side to the human mind
It’s selfish, angry, jealous and scared
Not thinking of how others have cared
And when time comes to deciding between them or you
It’s them all the way cause they don’t know what else to do.
Yelling and shouting in desperate fear
I sleep through the day and wake when night is near
Mothers try to comfort their children’s screams
Because they’re no longer safe even in their dreams
Humans can’t see how pointless war is
Until the last gunshot is fired,
And the sweet sound of nothingness.
