Flowers from Hell

I move my West Milford NJ Cabin, half-stone,
half-wood with a lovely back deck over-looking
wetlands and 26 acres of woods in July 1st of 2002.
I notice beautiful wildflowers of purple and white
that I dig up and plant in front of my home,  next
to where I plant my garden.  Look at me,  being
frugal and saving time and money by using what
nature has provided me in wetlands of my back yard.
A penny saved is a penny earned.  Yeaaaa.
I rue the July day in 2002 when I planted the
Speedwell plant with pretty flowers that is really
a weed and spreads as quickly as the dreaded
Kudzu that has famously overtaken the landscape
of the American South.
Every year I must pull out all the green Speedwell,
and its extensions,
and extensions of extensions
and extension of extensions  of extensions squared,
knowing I will never get rid of it all
and that it will be a life-long battle for me….
All because I stupidly attracted to the “pretty little
purple and white flowers” that I assumed were
friendly flowers, was the siren call
of a weed from the pit of hell
that will haunt me the rest
of my living gardening summers.
