Focus
Gracious birthstone; Opal of glory!
Only the beginning of a story.
Deep ruby red; of searing mortal life!
Requires untold sacrifice and strife!
Could emerald eyes; of honest reflection?
Restore stunning past; to a perfection?
Diamond of thought; laser focus clear!
Beaming tigers eye; will shed no tear!
Amethyst glowing royalty; true!
Sapphire exuding character; blue!
Brilliance of the clear Topaz shines!
Alluring stones! jewels of all kinds.
These often bring lust; of a surety!
Hope, we emulate pearls of purity!

wow Charlotte! thank you bunches!
Jim you had me reeled in on your first line with the word Opal in it.
For that is in the title of The Birth of the opal by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, my favourite poet.
And your poem mirrors that one, in its captivating words and imagery.
Imagery that shines and radiates (and no pun intended)Β .
A real journey of a sonnet and one more than well worth travelling.
A great write and a great read Jim.
Wishing you well and will be reading more sooner rather than later.
But in the poetry meantime thank you for writing a poem of top drawer quality.
love the beauty of opal and your talents as well! thank you!
Jim, here is one of my favourite poems by my favourite poet Ella Wheeler Wilcox whoΒ wrote a beautiful poem called The Birth Of The Opal and for your good self here it is...
The Sunbeam loved the Moonbeam,
And followed her low and high,
But the Moonbeam fled and hid her head,
She was so shy -- so shy.
The Sunbeam wooed with passion;
Ah, he was a lover bold!
And his heart was afire with mad desire
For the Moonbeam pale and cold.
She fled like a dream before him,
Her hair was a shining sheen,
And oh, that Fate would annihilate
The space that lay between!
Just as the day lay panting
In the arms of the twilight dim,
The Sunbeam caught the one he sought
And drew her close to him.
But out of his warm arms, startled
And stirred by Love's first shock,
She sprang afraid, like a trembling maid,
And hid in the niche of a rock.
And the Sunbeam followed and found her,
And led her to Love's own feast;
And they were wed on that rocky bed,
And the dying Day was their priest.
And lo! the beautiful Opal --
That rare and wondrous gem --
Where the moon and sun blend into one,
Is the child that was born to them.
Hope you enjoy it my friend,
Shaun
thank you bunches Ashley my friend!
