For The Child
The love is for the child
Not the adult they became
And sometimes moving on
Is the way to play this 'game'
We thought we did the very best
That love would be the key
But clearly we misunderstood
And blindly could not see
That now exists a stranger time
And values have all gone
They want 'their space, their freedom too
And care about no one
Always 'the victim' underdog
Their needs outstrip us all
They hurt the ones who loved them most
For reasons no one can recall
We question always 'were we wrong '?
Did we commit some crime?
Perhaps we worked too hard, too long
and didn't give them time?
But most of us I know will say
That's not how we recall
Our memories always warmed by love
We gave our kids our all
But clearly that was not enough
We are not allowed mistakes
They don't know how to compromise
That's all that it would take
Just tell us what we did so wrong?
'Cause most of us dont know
And if you can't then I'm afraid
You reap just what you sow
Although our hearts break every day
Its broken for the child
Our memories you cant take away
They'll never be defiled
But as an adult you should know
You need to grow a pair!
Its no good knowing you were wrong
If we're no longer there
We tried our best..in fact much more
To be your 'paragon'
But now the pain is just too much
So from my life ..you're gone.
