FORBIDDEN FRUIT

FORBIDDEN FRUIT

Where is the angel that brought you to me
When I was comfortable in my sadnessĀ
And feeling secure in my lingering tearsĀ

I desired no one,Ā
Neither was I looking for a way outĀ
I was coping with my misery just fineĀ
My heart being content with the thoughtsĀ
Of my confused mind

And then you came alongĀ
Waking me out of my self induced comaĀ
As though touched by an angelĀ
You lifted me to my feetĀ
Giving me a hope with razors edgeĀ

I had walked away from loveĀ
Never wanting to feel it's embrace againĀ
An embrace that caused meĀ
Nothing but heartache and painĀ

But I gave into your hypnotic seduction
I fell for your tranquil beauty
Your smile compelled me to exhale in surrender
And so I did

Only to become your scornĀ
As you fixed your gazeĀ
On someone of your own gender
Leaving me once more broken and ashamedĀ
A man emptied by a woman's lust for another.

Wilford Barker.
