Poem -

Forfeit of War

Drawn to the rapture,

Crowds screeches cheated him of any sense,

The promise of pride,

The lure of honour,

Bribery too immense,

For a spirit callow as his,

Engulfed by the carpet of king and country,

Horrors concealed by a mask of promise,

His childhood forfeit,

For a conflict,

Where no soldier were convict.

Amongst the mothers,

Shrouding their torment,

Like clouds masked by steel,

With smiles so fragile,

Minds that don’t dare traipse,

Amongst carnage sons must face.

I am the the father,

Shadowed by remorse,

Whose boy fought but not he,

Who cannot open the telegram,

Unlike his son knowing he shall not rest in peace.

Horrors concealed by a mask of promise, his chill hood forfeit, for a confict,
Where no soldier were convict.
