Franklin T Cohn

A legend in his own time
I just received this morning, some devastating news;
A great man Tuesday passed away, whom so many loved so true!
He was a legend in his own time, a paragon for us all;
Although short in measured inches, he stood so very tall!
.
The last time that I saw him, was at their sixtieth Anniversary;
He was with the woman who was his Soulmate, his beloved Natalie!
It was Shabbat dinner at the Temple, they held each other very tight;
Their love intoxicating, we toasted them all night!
.
Iāve known both of them six decades, Natalie from our high school;
And Frank I met through my Father, I thought he was so cool!
Then for over half a century, our paths went different ways;
Until two years ago, I moved back to Dayton, and experienced a glorious day!
.
Linda and I were visiting, my parentās burial plots;
When a car parked right behind us, and an old friend did I spot!
It was Frank, visiting before a bike ride, of twenty-five long miles;
As usual, his face shining with, itās most infectious smile!
.
In over fifty years since Iād last seen him, he had not changed a bit;
Full of contagious confidence, still saturated with his wit!
He told us he was still traveling, a salesman like few known;
A furniture aficionado, was Mr. Franklin T Cohn!
.
Soon Linda and I joined Temple Israel, we did dinners on Shabbat;
Before services, Frank and I would tell jokes, we both would laugh a lot!
I thought he was remarkable, that heād be a CentaurianĀ for sure;
Yet now, too early he has left us, the pain we try endure!
.
Today I honor him with this poem, the man Iāll eāer admire;
My tears fall for my hero, whom too early has expired!
I will present this ode to Natalie, hoping to alleviate some pain;
I will hold her very closely, as our tears both fall like rain!
.
.
Our Dearest Franklin
You were one in a million
We eāer will love you

My Dear Tony,
I have missed you terribly too, my dear friend.Ā I explained in my comment to Cherie, why we have not been on Cosmo for a while.Ā With that said, I have just read your beautiful heartfelt words to me, and, as you have many times before, their pure sentiment brought tears to my eyes.Ā Since writing this tribute, I found out that Franklin biked 12 miles last Sunday, and last Monday was telling jokes to the women in the office at the Temple.Ā Then on Tuesday, he had to leave our sides.Ā He was 85, and still very active in his business.Ā In fact, he was supposed to fly to Las Vegas on Thursday, for a business convention.Ā He was my paragon, whom I thought would live to be a hundred.Ā His passing has troubled me deeply.Ā I think that when something like this takes place, that it awakens us to our own mortality.Ā I still cannot believe that he is gone.Ā I am so happy that Linda got to be friends with him too, over the last year and a half in Dayton.Ā We gave a copy of this poem to his dear widow and my lifelong friend Natalie, before his funeral service started.Ā On the way to the cemetery, she read it to the family, and before his burial, she hugged me, and told me how beautiful it was.
Again, I thank you my dear friend for your tender compassion.
All our love,
Linda and Larry xxx
