Freddy

Freddy

Back in the 1980's
Many of us
largely ignored
the tremendous
talent that you
brought to the
world
Because of our
ignorant andĀ  anti- biased
views on Homosexuality

Decades later
I am ashamed
that I was a part
of this group

You were a diamond
created
before
Society
could fully
appreciate
what you had to offer

Your vocals
creates "goose bumps"
on my skin
every time
I hear a sound track
that you are on,
the creativity
and mastermind
behind the songs
you composed
Made you a Legend

It has been 28 years
since you lost
your battle
with "Aids"
the disease
that back in the day
many contributed
as a curse from GOD
for those in Sin

And
Though Today
many inflicted
with the virus
live a much
longer life,
SADLY
the ignorance
and the stigma
associated with
it
is still there

Now
I understand
better
why
the LBGTQ Community
chooses
the "Rainbow"
as their symbol

The Rainbow
is the promise
from GOD
that He will
always
be with us
and He will never
forsake us

Isn't it Ironic
that those
who for centuries
have been the
subject to harassment
and ridicule,
have chosen
to hold on to
the symbol
that the rest of us
have forgotten?

This poem is dedicated
to you Freddy
for you paid your
dues
you did your sentence
though you did no crime
mistakes made
like all of us
you had a few,
the sand kicked
in your face
is noted and condemned
for you are the Champion
my friend
until the end
Your inspiration
has changed a generation
Society will never forget....................
