Free as a bird

Free as a bird

“Over the garden wall I let my baby fall, my Mother came out & gave me a clout, over the garden wall”

Eeh this little picture takes me right back to my early days.. I can actually remember kids queuing up in a line inbetween their turn delays.. Oh what laughter and fun there used to be.. haha tossing each other to that chant up above...lovely memories for me ..

I find it very strange that children these days never play outside .. I was never in the house when a tiny tot, running locally far and wide.. we had our regular haunts of course but when October came around.. we’d ‘Penny for the guy’ and hunt for bonfire rubbish that could be found

Our ‘Guy Fawkes’ street fire was the biggest in our town.. coz the rebels in our street used to burn the others down ..but that was such a long time ago tho I often go back to those chilhood days.. we were so young and carefree, free as a bird in lots of ways

OMG Jill, we must be of the same generation and this takes me back. We never played inside, always out. And in the run up to bonfire night, we did penny for the guy as you say...then we sneaked into gardens like the SAS to sneak wood( I suspect the grown ups knew and left it for us) as the annual bonfire on the green was always supervised by the dad's and the whole bloody close would be out on bonfire night.( And bonfire night was always on bonfire night not on any given day before or after!!) In the run up to it we would try to raid neighbouring streets bonfire piles and all the kids of all the streets would have watch patrols...lol. Jesus WHAT has happened to childhoods?? Kids miss out on soooo much today, never out playing, ALWAYS supervised by parents!! How on earth will they develop the life skills they need for adulthood?? Thankyou for the memories my friend?
