Freedom Not Free
- To all freedom fighters

"There's no free lunch" - the same for freedom!Β By Yiyan Han (c),Β 2020-10-10 (minor correction on a couple of typos, 2020-11-02)
Freedom isn't free
It can't be granted by plea
Those unfortunate people in a rogue regime
Must all fight for it
And stand firm in the face of tyranny
Not to knee
Freedom isn't free
It can't be maintained by decree
Those fortunate people in a democratic society
Must all stand for justice, law and order
And preserve the universal values
That aren't carefree

By whom? Look at the date I first composed, and was actually published somewhere first.

Well, as I said before, things happen for a reason. Sure you've felt "Bitter" but equally sure I'm upset. This serves a warning to me that I have to do the right thing no matter what. There's freedom of speech and, equally importantly, freedom of choice in the free world. Good luck and best wishes to you for whatever you like to do.
No no no, the fault was all mine, I never had a clue one of my comments could be seen as offensive! But looking at it now it does seem that way... Sorry... I was only making a connection because I get heaps on inspiration from talented poets on here and I dont always say... and sometimes I like to make connections between poets... I regret commenting completely...Β
also bitter has nothing to do with you or any poet on here, just how I felt at the time of writing.
And yes your absolutely right, this site is for freedom of speech and equality and freedom... I'm sorry if this brought up anything for you...
I hope we can reconcile because I really enjoy your work and reading your talent.
Kind regards
Sorry for being an idiot.
The Fish of the Sea
Not titled the same anyway, no worries! We are all for freedom!
No offence, Jim, this poem was written before I even knew this website that's kindly introduced by a poetess on another poet's site.
We can have different stance re life and politics. But the honesty is a person's reputation!
No worries! I'm not offended. It's all good!
there are some countrys in this worldΒ
where you cant hold up a glassΒ
and say here to freedomΒ
and you will be arrested if do
That is sad, that is why I am grateful for what I have!
me to Jim
My heart goes out to those poor people who really are not free in any sense of the word. Great write, Yiyan.Β
And for what it is worth, I don't think Fish meant anything nasty in his comments above. I don't think you need be offended. It was only a query. Many, many times poets all through the ages are inspired by the writing of another. It was a legitimate query and no malice or accusation was intended... not from what I could see any way... and Fish is not like that. It is sometimes difficult to gauge the tone of the written message. All good π x
Thanks. I would state if I were as in my posted poems here - quite obvious and open for everyone to see.
Really interesting write Yiyan...I love the line
'Freedom isn't free'...there are all different kinds of freedom aren't there. Freedom from oppression, freedom from persecution ...freedom from depression, illness, the shackles of work, of hunger, of discrimination...etc etc etc...all of them come with a price
I think the only true freedom exists within our own minds...or death...hugs π
Thanks Marion, you're right. My little piece only focuses on the very fundamental freedom. No other freedom is guaranteed without the fundamental one, eg N. Korea.
Yes..I know what you mean. I know we moan in the west but we have never ( in my lifetime) know oppression by governments though the UK history says it's not so many years ago that the British poor were no more than slaves to the rich...forced into service at young ages or away to sea out of sheer need to eat and no options. We have not always had the democracy we have now. However I would hate to live with the limitations of a dictatorship...or religious zealism ...ππ
Such a fantastic choice of subject matter to be conveyed in poetic fashion...because it gives rise to all sorts of commentary.....opening up the site to lots of interaction.....like I was telling someone earlier today....when I first arrived on this site in 2014 this used to be such a family of poets/writers that interacted and gave each other all kinds of support......and what you've done here is the kind of write that gets everyone's opinions involved and forces interaction between other members.....which ultimately leads to all the wonderful potential that a site like this is set up to accomplish.....a family....of like minded and completely opposite minded individuals to support each other for the sake of the beauty that is invoked by simply being kind and supportive of other people's work......so thank you kind sir.....a fine piece of poetic insight...and powerful subject matter!!......ALL STARS!! & PINNED!!......well done dear poet brother!!......LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xoΒ : )
Thank you very much, Tony. I'm shamed I'm only a very new comer that's been introduced by a poetess friend. Yes, I enjoy reading good pieces here, and get inspired here and there. If a poem were inspired by a particular work, I would have first stated in the prologue, as seen in some of my writings. Kind regards.
You are very correct! Even freedom has a price to pay. well written piece Yiyan.Β
Thank you, PoetessDarkley, and yes it's everyone's duty to safeguard the freedom if we are lucky enough to have. Cheers, Yiyan
Freedom is never free. you are correct! ..a very timely reminder and a thought to consider..Very good write my friend.
