Friend

Unseen eyes shielded by plastic and straw,
little girl lost in the infinite darkness.
a cry for help it is not needed,
in the darkness her words are heeded.
single visible light shines down upon her,
grasping hand goes unfelt.
hand now thrust upon her taken by force
she does not cry
she will not see
there once was a glow inside her,
an ember, a flicker.
the light the darkness extinguished.
borrow some of mine,
I will give it to you freely.
there is always plenty to share,
to a friend that I love dearly.
