Poem -

For A Friend Who Lost A Friend

I didn't know him-

but if he had half the charisma of you-

then I'm sure his legacy is scrawled throughout the stars.

He was cunning and brave-

skillfully with his sword-

carving his spirit into history and creating a path into your heart.

He was tender and paternal -

the warmth in his heart bringing an end to the winter.

I'm sure he's got an equally warm welcome in place for him.

I'm sure his pride and his wit and his love-

will span the ages-

and be the theme of every book you read-

be the presence of every person you meet-

the soul behind every tune you hear-

the spark behind the love you share.

Like gold ink he is written

on the onyx silk of time;

and like the mark of those truly sublime,

he will be with you on every climb.

All my love and all my sorrow-

to you and your grandfather.
