Poem -

Gen Z

Dear every other generation,

Gen Z

Generation Z is useless.
Right?
Cowards 'cause we're not scared to die?
Drug addicts because we are stupid?

No. Not right.

We may not be as smart and wise as you.
But we are an army of creators.
We bleed words onto paper,
and sing our screams.
We fight through movements of dance,
and splatter pain through art.

We aren't cowards,
Just because we're not scared to die.
We don't care about death,
because what is their to miss about life?

The sting of your hand when you slap us?
The mental problems that you gave us because you drank?
Or is it the way we shed tears every night?
How you criticize and belittle us until we're nothing?
Or the way our hearts bleed, but all you do is make it worse?

So, what is their to miss in this world if we die?

We may be suicidal and broken,
but we are also stronger than any of you will understand.

We are not stupid.
Some of us do drugs,
but who did them first?
We were kids watching some of you get high and abuse us.
We learnt this from you.

Don't treat us like bad people,
just because we learnt something bad from you.
Have some faith in us.

We're all human,
and we all make plenty of mistakes.

We are Generation Z.
Broken hearts, but wondering souls.
We except everyone for who they are.

We are an army of creators.

Powerful write Jade though I will venture to say every generation feels this way. Nobody is born middle aged or old and so every generation is scathing of the one before and then ...guess what?...we become them and our kids are writing the above. hugs ?

This is so gorgeous! I can't believe more people haven't voted 5 stars! well 10 stars from me, the poem truly expresses Gen Z.

Sounds in some ways remeniscent of the convos between the kids of 60s gen. The pendulum swings on... one extreme to the other... a generation of over-protection followed by one of neglect... the pressures of modern life taking their toll, all the "coping mechanisms" to keep treading the tread mill, while children are sacrificed to Moloch the cash cow. Sorry you've felt so degraded and silenced. It's truly sad. Here's to turning that around and asserting your place in the world.

Awesome write. Facing the truth of ourselves and reminding others that we weren't born "bad" or the way we're branded. Being a recovering alcoholic myself, I often face and deal with judgemental and ignorant people, even those that are close. All we can do is dust off our shoulder and move on.
'Have some faith in us'
Right on.

I'm glad to see that you are recovering from it. This world is filled with quite few people who don't give people credit for trying. They only realize our flaws and what were not doing well. Just don't give up and prove them all wrong-that is what I keep in my head.

I wish I did see an army of creators... that would be promising. . . I trust that Gen Z will find its beat and recreate the program... leadership is thrust upon the last ones standing

Wonderful. I voted for you but must admit it made me sad. Sad that it even had to be written. I don't think gen z is any of those things. I think they are brilliant and not sensitive but lead by their hearts. You are the generation that holds the most potential for great things.
