GENERAL STORES

Back in the day were known as General Stores
Somewhere to visit for your shopping chores
Everything was available at a fixed priceĀ
Milk in bottles bread sold by the sliceĀ

Butter sold in blocks as was the lardĀ
Like granite and concrete both very hardĀ
Sweets were of course stored in a jarĀ
Soap not in a packet but kept in a barĀ

The shopkeeper was always smartly attired
Kept it open all hours until he retiredĀ
That was the end of the General storeĀ
Gone forever to return alas no more
