GENERAL STORES

Back in the day were known as General Stores
Somewhere to visit for your shopping chores
Everything was available at a fixed price
Milk in bottles bread sold by the slice

Butter sold in blocks as was the lard
Like granite and concrete both very hard
Sweets were of course stored in a jar
Soap not in a packet but kept in a bar

The shopkeeper was always smartly attired
Kept it open all hours until he retired
That was the end of the General store
Gone forever to return alas no more
