KNOW THE POET

KNOW THE POET

So, the rain is falling on the tin roof

and I hear

a Cat wailing off the yard fence.

I drag a chair to the window

and between

the raindrops sliding down the glass

I am thinking of you dear reader.

I don’t want you

to fear asking me a question

of what I mean to say in my poems

or if you

would just like to know the poet.

The rain

is pattering above obtrusively

without permission

but I am not annoyed.

Nature never can say no

or listen to our cries

when we want to be heard

but you

can ask the poet anything.

We are so tied

to the forces of our feelings

Sometimes

we become outraged

and other times

just simply cry over words.

Sometimes I shake badly

as if God

is trying to push His way out of me

not meaning to sound absurd.

From the days of Woodstock

or the Chelsea Hotel

back in the day, I was

a fire all right

slowly dimmed by age.

Ginsberg or Lennon,

a hard pair

to poetically keep up with, I tried

and became

myself in my own right.

So, ask me anything you’d like

I am

a friendly sort most of the time.

With me

it can be a surreal conversation

creating art with our time.

I won’t bite

or take

your head off for being my friend

after all

aren't we

all in here to share each other’s life?

A mad poet is a knurly Soul

but with me

you have a crier of our humanities.

Get to know me,

and take

a step forward to learn about me.

We will always be in session

for we

are the monopoly of one consciousness.
