A Lazy Day

A young unending day
Is a treasure so refined
When the mourning doves sit quiet
And I can pray my best prayer
There is only sunlight and pine trees
Reaching up to the sky
A casual stop at the water well
To see if the frogs are still crying
I can find a dozen lizards, who refuse
To sit so still
I find myself laughing .like a crazy old coyote
That is not in any hurry
The grounds at this old forgotten farm with its mile high weeds
And over grown sunflower seeds
Sitting in the tall alfalfa, hiding from myself,
I wonder if there could be any finer
Way to spend a lazy day.

Everything about your words is so descriptive, so redolent of a lazy and sun-kissed day and I am always a sucker for a poem that ends with the title. I like the simile of the crazy old coyote and it seems rather apt that this poem is set on an old forgotten farm where no doubt nature has reasserted its control.
