Ghost Letter

Ghost Letter

On the eve of battle
a soldier wrote his love...

"If I die come morrow
please temper your sorrow
with this hopeful refrain:

"If this be the last war
and men die no more
then my death was not in vain"

He perished of course
many many wars ago
in yet another pointless conflict
where nothing was gained
and everything lost

Nice poem, but I don't believe freedom from tyranny was a loss. Just my humble opinion. I love my freedom to express it!

I love that we are all free to express our opinions,,, Don't believe the hype about wars fought against tyranny.. More times than not they are fought to promote the economic interests of the string pulling wealthy special interests

So you are saying my Dad fought his ass off for some string puller? take off your rose colored glasses ! I'm sure your generation is full of string pullers but MY Dad fought a tyrant, maybe you aren't old enough to here about a butcher named Adolph? I'm just glad that I won't live long enough to see my country not defended because of arm chair philosophers !Your free to express your precious opinion because good men were willing to put their ass on the line for freedom loving philosophers!

World War II was obviously a war against tyranny and those who sacrificed there did so for a noble cause(survival).. The same can not be said for those whose youth was wasted in the jungles of Vietnam, the deserts of Iraq, or the mountains of Afghanistan...This poem diminishes no soldier who served...

You tried to tell me what to believe so I will tell you ! the men and women that fought in all those wars are valiant ! but you might want to look that word up! Those wars were fought to try an stop butchers, go fight Congress and don't ever pick up a gun! Please run for office we need more philosophers in office to tell us what to believe!

Thanks for the kind words... I am far from the best writer, but I always strive to be thought provoking where possible

What in the hell do you know about Vietnam, Iraq, or any other war?! Were you in any war? did you sit in Congress when the decisions were being made, or are you just quoting some liberal "professor" Give me some evidence of credibility before you tell me what to think!

I have a feeling it would be quite challenging to ever tell you what to think as your anger and I suspect a variety of other personality disorders makes open minded rational thought a virtual impossibility for you... You do have my sympathy though
