Girlfriends--a 9/11 story

We had a tadpole in a jar
It swam round and rounds all day
We laughed and joked
our way to school
Threw our homework in the pond
and laughed at the teacher
all day long
You laughed so much
you peed your pants
It drained upon the floor
You could not stop laughing
all day long
and peed your pants some more
We jumped up in the muddy puddle
as we made our way from school
It splashed up on our legs and tights
so we jumped in it some more
We were as happy
as a dog with bone
and laughed all the way home
We went to the carny
walked all around
they could not keep
us settled down.
I lost you in the funhouse
But heard you laughing
outside the door
After our finals
you threw your panties
right out of the car.
So I threw out mine.
A policeman
saw nothing to celebrate
We laughed and laughed
as we paid the fine
and
then went off to graduate
We both exchanged
Wedding rings
and our bellies grew and grew.
we laughed at all our times gone by
You said at last we had
learned to multiply
In business you laughed yourself
right to the top.
nothing could hold you back
Then on 9/11
you went to heaven
The planes came down
The towers fell
and turned to cloudy ash
The whole world shook
when you died.
God I miss your laugh.
