Poem -
Giving Up Humanity
The worst of the fighting is hopefully over.
The nature of this battle was like no other !
Death was no distraction from the combat,
Men and machine testing strategy of attack.
Blood runs asĀ a river onĀ blackened landscape.
From the horror there is to be no escape !
..........................................
Even veterans of this war cry out in anguish,
TurningĀ the clock back beingĀ their only wish !
How could this tragedy even happen at all ?
How does mankind justify this grim downfall ?
History will notĀ be kind for losing aĀ generation.
Why was humanity given up on this occasion ?

Nice write Richard, though there seems no end to wars and it seems that there is no humanity or respect for life at all.Looking for the day when the young get the picture and radically change global thinking.
The reasons for various wars are complex but the outcome is the same. Mankind has to learn in an era of weapons of mass destruction that perpetuating division and prejudice leads to dangerous situations. There has to be more solidarity and emphasising of unifying factors to bring harmony where it has struggled to materialise.
