God's Own Country

God's Own Country

Travelling through Kerala
A modern Samarkand:
Trade and religion
And brotherhood of man

Churches, Mosques and Temples
Nestled between palm trees
Serenity, tranquility;
A land of kind souls' peace

God's own country
In the One and in the many
Brahman, Ishvara
Jeez this place is heavenly

I pinch myself
Oh panoramic scene!
Warm, nurturing
How can't this be a dream?

Mother and Father
Their daughters and sons
Neighbourhoods of families
By the setting sun

This balance sometimes tottles
Always under threat
Politicians, Colonials
Not succeeding yet

Malabar I love you
Surely so does God
What a treasured blessing
For me of your land trod

I pray for you Mappilas
And every Mallu there
That righteousness and goodness
Ever wrap in divine glare

Shine-on all you nilavilakku
Burn with bakhti flame
Praises and dances
In orbit of The Name
