Going Against The Tide

In my Youth
I was told
"Never to go against
the tide"
Being told this
I remember
thinking
that given 
the fact
that most
people
are lazy
and would 
rather follow the social
norm rather than
take the risk
I decided
it was in my 
best interest
to make the 
intentional decision
to always go against the tide.

Decades later
reflecting on
my decision
I have to say
I never regreted
going my own
way
True
I drowned 
several
times (metaphorically)
and had to 
be resuscitated 
Yet in the end
My strength within
me grew
and with it
was the
complete
satisfaction
 knowing
"I did it my way"............................
