THE GOLDEN PARACHUTE

need my golden parachute to keep me from despair
the millions that they promised long ago
for when I leave the company and am no longer there
and  am no longer earning other dough

I will never have the hounds of need snapping at my heels
the golden parachute has saved me that
although the people under me may know just how it feels
I will not need to pass around the hat

I know they say I never quite lived up to expectations
and some of them now say the fault is mine
but if they only knew about those stupid regulations
they'd know how hard it is to toe the line

I now thank my God above my contract never had a clause
which tied in my performance to my cash
My performance never made a solid profit there because
Of when I held the reigns and used the  lash

If they run too short of money they can ask to be bailed out
and let the little people bear the load
as long as my huge parachute still carries all the clout
when I get out and head on down the road

Now while I'm sitting by my pool enjoying one more dinner
I'll see the nations lackeys figure out
some ways to make my bank account and savings be much thinner
They'll say I don't deserve it I've no doubt

And finally I may only have enough to get me through
while sitting in my mansion getting old
I only can afford to have  one more or maybe two
Thank God I had the sense to purchase gold
