Good (spoken word)

Good (spoken word)

At a young age I gave away a part of me
To an older boy, aged just thirteen
Hair mousy brown - Eyes jaded green
A living, walking, breathing dream
Though things aren't always what they seem
And I never really have been that...
Good.
At catching on to people's schemes.

Every time he walked away
I would wait and I would stay
Leaving people thinking I'm deranged
For in those times I'd hope and pray
That God would give me one last day
So I could prove it true when I say he is...
Good.
My better judgement had been led astray.

He tattooed sweet nothings on the flesh
Of my little brain- naive and fresh
Words of warning fell upon my ears deaf
There's no way I would ever have left
For my mind he would molest
And my heart he would possess into seeing only the...
Good.
He had me at checkmate like in a game of chess.

His touch could numb the deepest of wounds
That he inflicted with his tongue- a hewn
But I wouldn't have to wait long for soon
Overcome with guilt at my feet he'd swoon
I was a butterfly trapped in a cocoon
Wishing desperately upon the moon to show that my wings at least were...
Good.
But I stayed tainted by him; my trapped wings maroon.

The damage healed- bandaged by loving words
But my oh my how it did hurt
To have to watch him tease and flirt
And realise to him I was nothing but dirt
A weak little bitch he could desert
Break down, belittle, and subvert all the...
Good,
And leave feeling hopeless, a small sad introvert.

Then into my wounds he would pour salt
With the illusion it's my own fault
For if I so hated the way we fought
Then I should have brought things to a halt
And it takes two so he takes blame at naught
And because I stayed then by default he is...
Good,
'Cause if he really was that bad I would have walked.

And perhaps all of this is true
You can see things from both points of view
You may even find you agree with him too
This thought leaves me feeling blue
Wandering what there is that I can do
To forget the past, erase the bad, but renew all the...
Good.
Though just how do I do that? If only I knew.

The time flies past the clock ticks on
It turns out I'm not the only one
Who wasted years wishing upon
The stars and moon for a person
To love them and to really want
To build an ever lasting bond that is...
Good.
So to one of them I respond.

With time I've learned to love again
I fell in love with myself I'm my own best friend
And found a wonderful man since then
At last my heart began to mend
For I have learned how to depend
Protect, avenge and to defend my own heart which is...
Good.
