Good Intentions

My destination in life used to seem so obvious 
To which my good intentions became oblivious
My straightforward path was forever altered
As my beating heart always faltered
When the pain of others became my burden
Of the meaning of my own life I became uncertain
The world has become so cruel and heartless
They carry on with their lives regardless
This route however I cannot undertake
Somehow I must humanity awake
