Goodbye again

goodbye again
Β
The old cottage
sits in breaking light
Covered in snowfall
from the canadian winter.
A Christmas card picture.
The last of the stars
Fade into morning sleep.
All night I have
sat in my chair.
Beside the glowing warmth
Of the maplewood fire.
Opposite to your armchair
As we so often were on long
winter nights.
Next to you chair
your book and glasses.
Unmoved from
when you were here.
It is on my agenda
to move them.
But not quite yet
Just not yet.
In the slow quiet hours
I drifted in
and out of sleep.
In the comforting
warmth you were
With me once more.
Sat quietly in your chair.
Beside the firelight
that you loved.
Of course the morning
took you away again
with the starlight.
And for me
the moment of loss
Is as sharp as ever.
I pour a mug
of hot black coffee
And whisper to you
Goodbye again honey.
