Happy Birthday My Dear Father

My dearly departed Father, today in nineteen-fifteen;
You were born in Philadelphia, the second son of my Bubby Lena!
A strange day for a Jewish boy be born, on Christmas Day that year;
But later, it proved to be a blessing, about which my readers now will hear!
.
You married a Christian woman, my Mother was Lutheran by birth;
So we celebrated only Christmas, filled with gifts and endless mirth!
When I was twelve, we started a tradition, to celebrate your Birthday;
We’d have an all day wonderful party, open bar with great food trays!
.
For in those days, nothing would be open, no place to go on Xmas day;
So they came to party at the Ran house, and respects to you to pay!
The music would be playing, the bar in its full swing;
We’d average over forty, we’d party and we’d sing!
.
What a wonderful day to have it, bringing you happiness and joy;
I loved watching how it pleased you, me your son, and only boy!
I wish I could visit you in Heaven, to throw you another one today;
But I’ll make do by writing you this poem, and throwing “kisses” up your way!
.

My Jewish Father
Born on Jesus’s Birthday
God loved him too
