Happy Birthday My Dear Father
Hyman H. Ran 12-25-15 to 1-22-77
Here it is that day again, t’was such a special one for you;
For not only was it Christmas, it was your beloved Birthday too!
We’d unwrap presents in the morning, then prepare our annual large soiree;
Great hors d’oeuvres in the dining room, lots of booze at the bar there’d be!
.
All your friends would come to see you, and sing you Happy Birthday songs;
We’d average thirty or forty, the day’d last very long!
By nightfall, you’d be exhausted, from entertaining your company;
You’d go to bed real early, filled with VO and lots of glee!
.
If only I could but celebrate, just once again like we did before;
You’d be back for me to hold tight, and say “I could not love you more”!
But I’ll have to honor you with memories, of those greatest ever years;
I will sing you Happy Birthday, and shed a few sad tears!
.
.
Happy Birthday Dad
Now Angels serenade you
Celebrate your day

I could see the celebration -- I could feel the warmth in the room. Good job with the descriptions and images.

Hello & Happy New Year!
You are not far from me at all. I used to drive to Dayton all the time. I grew up in Springfield, Ohio, most of my family resides there today. Which makes the holidays a challenge. I'm glad you replied to my critique. I'm a little rusty and have no clue as to how many stars to award. It's been fun reading so many wonderful poems on this site. Glad I found yours. I'm sure I'll be reading a lot more of your work. You have a fantastic voice for narrative, which you could turn into a paid publication with the right links to follow that dream.
I'm getting ready to do a ten-day research project, to find out what magazines and publishers accepted poems and short stories for nonfiction and fiction. When I get the entire list done, I'll post it here for the many authors who all have the same dream.
Thanks again for the reply.
I'm on Face Book as: Katina Woodruff Borgersen, if you
care to add me on FB, I share narrative poems on there, that I don't publish anywhere else. Okay, enjoy your day, full of new ideas and new poems.
Our Dear Katina,
It's so neat that you grew up in Springfield. Do you remember Wrens Department Store? In the 1960's, my Father was friends with their Merchandise Manager, Thelma Sallee, whose son Jack, played basketball for UD. I was raised in Dayton, and graduated from Fairview HS in 1962. But Linda was raised in Belmont, Mass, a Boston suburb. We just moved to Dayton in September of 2017, after having lived in Florida for 20 years. We came up for a very lucrative work opportunity for Linda, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a sham. I have been an Art Dealer for 50 years, and we have been selling paintings on EBay for over 20 years. I am in Springfield often, checking out the Antique Malls.
Lastly, we feel if we read someone's poem, it is always best to give them 5 stars.
All our love,
Linda and Larry xxx
