Heart Held Under

Heart Held Under

Dear heart held under,

For a moment I thought you called to me...
I too feel your pain as I feel my own veins forcing
life through me...

Such a fragile frame for
what I recollect to be a familiar plead, yet
what a solitary shell you possess.
I know the call because I know my own.
It is one of a ravaged mind, whose heart
seeps pain much more fluently than
life. I've answered back, in my words, in my
sorrow and in my heart.
But a heart held under
cannot hear what is on the surface. A ravaged
mind cannot negotiate with a solitary shell
and a fragile frame bends and breaks
as a beautiful heart goes cold...
I am always here, oh heart held under.
If the darkness wasn't so dark I would find
you and pull you to the surface with me.
I would breathe life back into your veins
and end this tragic pain.
I would shelter your frame and spend
as many nights repairing your mind
as I will listening to your call and always
answering. There would be no regrets.
All I need is your light to find you, your hand
to guide you and your heart to mend you.
Until then, oh heart held under, please
keep calling out...
