Here Chicky Chicky

Here Chicky Chicky

I remember when as a lad, folks would get baby chickens at Easter time;
We used to touch and play with them, each one cost just a dime!
Then later, when I started dating, I thought it was really slick;
To tell my buddies about a girl, saying “I met this gorgeous chick”!
.
But this day a half a century later, my heart is filled with grief;
For I just read about chickens in North Carolina, who from floods got no relief!
One million seven hundred thousand, lost their precious little Souls;
Drowned by the monster Florence, what a saddened heavy toll!
.
They say even the ones that survived there, will probably starve to death;
My heart is weeping tears for them, my Soul is so bereft!
So my fine little feathered friends, I’ll say a prayer for you;
That soon you will be reborn again, and making “cockle-doodle-dos”!
.
.
                                  Almost two million
                             Innocent little chickens
                               Will not cluck again
