Hidden

Hidden behind pretty blue jeans
And dazzling smiles
Were short thin scars
And words engraved into her skin

Hidden behind long sleeves
And pretty bead bracelets
Were long red lines
And pale white scars

Hidden behind pretty clothes
And in plastic drawers
Were individual little packages
And food never eaten

Hidden behind flawless makeup
And bright cheeks
Were dark circles
And memories of sleepless nights

Hidden behind fake smiles
And hundreds of "I'm fine"'s
Was a broken girl
Who was doing her best to survive
