High Noon

High Noon

As the clock ticks just before noon
townsfolk drift away
tension rises,cowboys sweat
waiting for this day

two will be one or two will be none
in a short few minutes they stand
a duel of two cowboys
first win is a steady hand

they stare and glare ,not looking back
at each others eyes they face
heartbeat rises, finger on the trigger !
fastest wins life's race

guns pulled from holsters
quickest to the draw
they fire ,bullets vengeance in the heart
down they go in one short blast
the weapons made their mark

gun smoke clears,cowboys are dead
one through the heart ,one in the head
townsfolk are curious what made that day
for two young lives to go that way

a quarrel ,a drink ,a wrong  word given
a date with death and no one living
dusty hats lay in the town
high noon gunshots , two men down

An interesting write. I loved the old westerns on TV (I still do). Though in reality few gunfights were fair (many were shot in the back), I'm sure some gunfights went down just like this. I enjoyed the read.
