HOLIDAY
All the pictures we take
The smiling faces of sunshine and sea
Frozen cocktails and golden ales
All for a workers fee.
We labour and save
Every mundane day
Building blocks of gold
Into piggy banks at home,
Tossing our riches into paradise pools
And Consume to luxury foods.
Our bellies become bloated
Our ashen skin, turning blotchy red
Lotions and creams
Absorbed on sweaty bed.
Showers twice a day
To wash away the sand
The Dead skin and waste
Left to this sunshine land.
In hotels we stroll
Through white corridors,
The threshold to our rooms
Manifest through wooden doors.
Views of oceans blue
And Panoramic scenes
Presented to us
From porcelain bal-co-nies.
Every evening we don our wear
Sipping black Russians
While exhausted children
Play at the fair.
Long walks down the strip
Buying trinkets of bazaar
Dipping our feet into silver fish
Inhaling every neon star.
I could go on forever
Seeking the reason why
Why we work so hard
For moments of sunshine joy.
I guess it's to spend time
With loved ones dear
To laugh and hold
Those that are near.
Yet I can't help but feel
Are these moments real
For When I return
To my laboured space
Working to buy more time
In this wilted race
These pictures begin to fade
Moments become dull
Until next year
When we pay
For more sunshine fun.

Handsome picture and lovely words
Why thank you, it will fade fast.
Awesome work :)
Thank you
Brilliant write Gerard,
I'm certainly part of the rat race too. That first stanza draws the reader in and I'm all too familiar with the cycle.
Hope you're keeping well - Syd
I feel a big shift is happening with humans, every one I work with, particularly new faces are all questioning there place on the earth, I'm having conversations I never would have had 10 years ago, there is something special going on.
Thanks Syd, I'm keeping good, i hope your all good aswell.
😎
There are those who know how to jump the line and cheat the rest. But at what cost to their soul? Keep smiling. Nothing wrong with an honest days work!
Great write.
JP
Your right there john, my observations of life are always rigid, like a side walk, sometimes I need to bite the concrete just to let people know I mean business, by making these observations of the mundane, I like to think I'm disrupting myself to do more productive things rather than settle for the basic.
Thanks 👌
The gap between one adventure and the next is precisely how I mark time .. well poemed my literary friend .. Neville
Thank you.
you are most welcome, my pleasure entirely
I haven't ever been on a holiday like that! Not ever! Not abroad to sun, sea and sand. Mostly my decision. I've spent a few days in Cornwall, and in Wales Last year. But I love your poem xx
They are OK, I do feel lucky to get to go abroad but these type of sun holidays a pretty boring, I like going to Europe, Budapest, krakow, Amsterdam, great cities, you should try krakow, its a beautiful place steeped in history.
I've always questioned this system we are born into Gerard....working our lives away, hardly seeing our families or friends with a meagre allotted time off by the powers that be( rich bastards who get it all fot free)
I've no idea why we all just accept that this is the way it has to be....one planet, endless possibilities of how we could all live...humans are stupid ...Great write x
I don't think we are conscious enough to accept any other way of living but we are getting there, this circular economy will go bust and Awaken the younger generation, the whole concept of printing money and applying a value to it will come to an end.
A person is smart, people are dumb.
Thanks for the comment Marion 🧡
