Home Sweet Home

IF you have a home, a shelter, an abode
You are truly blessed
I took having a home for granted
It was just an assumption I would have one
Never worried about or plotted about
It wasnt until I found myself standing on
a sidewalk smelling coffee brewing and bacon
watched as the sunday unraveled with grace
Saw people sat at a table
Realized I had no place
No one waited for me to arrive
No one was irritated at my late
It was a cold dead morning
Of stark reality opening the clouds
Parting the primrose path of denial
Into the streams of haves an have nots
I was definitely a have not
Not too pleasant certanly not expected
I had always assumed
Β i would have a home
A family to go with it
A mortgageΒ and a PITI, or at least rent
Not the sleeping on a park bench or
Hiding inside a doorway
There are many nice forgotten people on the sidewalk
Forgotten by priests, friends, lovers, families
Swept aside by changing politics and economic waves
By social ills and morality flaws
They stand united in misery and a growing
callous regard of life
Remembering them is hard to do.
Forgetting them was easy
