Homesick

I never thought I'd see the day,
When I would hear myself say...
(That in a funny kind of way)
"I think I'm missing the UK"
Not the cold, nor the rain,
Or rush hour traffic again and again.
The daily blues, the daily grind,
I'm glad I've left all that behind.
But what I miss the most you see,
Are the things that mean a lot to me,
Like my good friends and my family,
And you can't beat an English cuppa tea!
I miss me sisters and me brothers,
Nieces, nephews, grandparents and others.
The ones I've been dating, the part-time lovers,
Especially the times we were under the covers!
I miss "Good morning, how do you do"?
I miss "Not bad thanks, how about you"?
I miss the world famous British humour,
It IS the best, not just a rumour.
Little Britain, Jonathan Ross,
O'Grady live at five,
Simon Cowell bein a bitch,
And Davina on Big Brother live.
Then there's Trisha, "God I miss her"
And her rival Jeremy Kyle,
Love to watch that trailer trash ,
Cos they're so bloody vile!
Absolutely Fabulous, French and Saunders too,
The twisted League of gentlemen and the Shameless crew.
Alan Carr, Jimmy Carr. What a jolly treat,
I miss the soaps like Hollyoaks, Eastenders and Coronation street.
I miss the lazy, hazy days,
And ways we glaze in summer.
It's mish, It's mash, It's over in a flash,
Then winter again... What a bummer!
I miss my Queens and country,
Even my country's Queen,
And every Queen on every scene I've been and seen,
"Know what I mean"?
But most of all I miss me Mum's,
Me friends, me mates, me pals, me chums.
The bouncy girls with the bouncy curls,
But especially the boys with the bouncy bums!
But never mind what I've been missing,
"Am I being missed"?
Probably not, or if so, not a lot,
So fuck it... Let's get pissed!!!

Brian! Enjoyed this write! I lived in London for several years during the time when the Beatles had just released "I want to hold your hand". I really enjoyed living in your country and have wonderful memories.
I'm sure you are missed by friends and family!

I am back in England now but I wrote this poem when I was working in Spain and again I found therapy in turning home sickness into a light hearted poem. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
