Hops' Bread

Hops' Bread

 A boy awakes early in the morning
 Hearing the scream of the bicycle horn,
 The man is selling ‘Hops bread’
 Rousing the neighbours
 With his high-pitched patois;
‘Four for a shilling’
‘Twenty for a dollar’
Every morning but Sunday morning
He comes on the street
 Fresh from the bakery
 In a white shirt and Marino
Getting granny running around the house
 For a brown paper bag, and money
That she hides in her dresser drawer
 And the boy never goes back to sleep
When that sweet aroma
Comes in the house;
 He starts dreaming;
  ‘Hops bread’ dipped in souse
  Soft butter and potato cheese, on it
 And a hot cup of ‘Fry’s cocoa
Sweetened with condensed milk

feeling ya, brother,loll...I'm taking my laptop outside to put the piece of crap under my van and run it over; everything is sticking; it's maddening
