How could you know?

How could you know?

~~You were too young to know.
My heart had seen
ten summers more than yours.
How was it possible
That you could know
how much you loved me.
You blew away
In the hot summer winds
of your youth.

Now I see you infrequently
 after the passing seasons.
I see the memories
within your clear gray eyes.
Unfurling my hair
Beneath the hemlock tree
lips reaching for mine.
I see their desires and needs
still alive within you.

How was it possible
That you could know
How much you loved me
