HUMAN RIGHTS
Since the dawn of time
We were offered the right to become humans,
Was it through evolution
Or by the will of god?
The eternal question will forever consume us,
And there will always be an opposite
Between the right and the wrong
From the rich to the poor
Time passing gave us knowledge
To the boundlessness of evolving minds
But the nature of man was underestimated
By the wits of time, over and over again
His capacity for immense cruelty
And forgetting the meaning of kind,
Had the amnesty created to grant pardon
And protect against heinous crime.
My hope—hope I still hold—
That time will find an elixir for ignorance,
But my hope is tested that it will have the medicine
To efface the evil from merciless hearts,
Unless we find the will to not fall, but fight
In the battle between fear and wisdom,
To be delivered as victors
To the line where freedom writes.

Who could not agree with what you say in your poem? Your words are particularly apt given the current state of the world, the election happening in Great Britain today, the one happening in France and the upcoming US election. During all of which human rights will figure precisely nowhere probably. Signatories they may be but to what exactly?
I assume your line "had the amnesty created" refers to Amnesty International. An elixir for ignorance would be good and an elixir for indifference. We ought to find the will to fight - that is so right. It is only us acting together who can change things.
What a deep deep write and so well written. The world is a continual desperate blood bath and has been for our entire presence on this planet and despite the fight for human rights, at some point I think one has to acknowledge there is more cruelty in the human being than love.

Humanity today Bernadete is evidently turning a blind eye and deaf ear for Human Rights in general and when they don't, when the latest harrowing images of outrage appear on the news, nothing is truly resolved with regards to justice and the long term well being for those afflicted, at present.
At present I say, for as your powerfully well written thought provoking poem evidently shows, it doesn't dismiss the word hope.
And I for one, am an avid supporter of hope, for over time, however long that maybe, common sense and decency will prevail.
Our bodies have five senses, touch, smell, taste, sight, hearing.
But not to be overlooked are the senses of our souls, intuition, peace, foresight, trust, and true empathy for others.
Time, I believe- will eventually tell.
Thank you Bernadete for sharing your poem of moral concern.
I never replied to this, so I do now. Thank you Shaun for taking the time to reflect on it. Wise words. Well spoken! And your final words about intuition are terrific
Stay well. Greetings, B
Deep and well written!
