I am a sister

I am a sister
Â
A strong
Intelligent
Sensible
Tenacious
Elegant
Role model
Don’t judge me for the color of my skin
But for the color of my actions
Does my mouth spew foul words?
And degrade everyone they speak about
Or are my words mostly uplifting?
Do not look down upon me,
for the thickness of my hair
or the lightness of my skin
I am a sister
Though I may look different than other sisters
Though my culture may be different
Though the texture of my hair may permanently stamp me with the word NEGROE
I am a sister, just like every other woman out there
Because we are women
We are supposed to stick together
Not fight each other
Should it really matter
How much weight you've gained?
How tanned you are?
How pale you are?
Or even how much assets you have?
Why are you looking at me
for the beauty of my physical features.
When instead you should be looking at me
for the intelligence of my beautiful mind.
Besides,
Just because we’re beautiful
doesn’t mean you’ll ever get the chance to
See our raw beauty.
We are precious gifts
who remain closed off,
until we feel like playing Santa clause
to the Right person at the Right time.
Though some of us may give our gifts away
More easier than others,
That should not stamp us all with the label
Of easy, or whore.
So please sisters of all colors, religions and races.
Treasure yourself.
Treat other sisters with respect.
And please brothers
Treasure us sisters
For we are not
To be taken for granted.
