But I Came

I was late
When the towers
Defending your fortress fell
I was late
When the fires raged around you
In hell
I was late
When you were running out of oxygen
And gasping for air
I was late
While everyone else was there
And seemed to care
I was late
When problems seemed
To pile upon pile
I was late
When they looked
At my distress and then smiled
I was late
When you cried
And I tried
So very hard
I was late
While they
Held my arms back
And I watched
I was late
When they covered me
In tape
In scotch
I was late
Or so it seems...
But I came
Doesn't that count
For anything?

I love the format of how you repeat "I was late" throughout the poem then at the end with "But I came" and I think that does count for something... 5*s
Val ♥️
Thank you Val :) and thank you again because this poem reflects feeling and you just gave me what little reassurance you could, see what I was saying? You affect more than you think, I'm smiling btw

Word........Jim
Hey Curious!!......you definitely have a gift for formatting and presentation brother............there is a longing in this that felt as though it were haunting you.............like your girlfriend was in a car accident.........but you arrived late and drunk..........and no one would let you near or something.........I know my interpretation is wrong but that's the kind of feel I got...........this is truly compelling bro.............love and rockets........T xo
In a sense you weren't that far off, and I'm glad that you sensed the longing that embodied the poem, much appreciated brother, and much love
