Poem -

I Chose You

Today in class, we were told to imagine ourselves walking through a park
With someone special.
And I chose you.

We were asked how we felt with that person next to us
And I said "safe,
happy, content".
Because I'd lost you but now
I had you back.
I had the chance to make it worthwhile.
So I chose you.

I chose you because I never forgot you.
Your thinning grey hair,
Your lack of real teeth,
Your loving stare,
Yet a reminder of my grief.
But I still chose you.

Because the days get harder without you around.
Everything loses meaning.
Music loses its sound.

I begin to forget your face
Because it's been so long since I saw,
The proud look in place,
On a man I love so much and more.

But grief hits me like a tidal wave.
I am the candle that loses its flame.
But your memory allows me to linger,
It gradually eases the pain.

So I chose you. Because I wanted to.
Because you are love, happiness, grief and
loneliness.
Because you're the only thing in this world that ever mattered.
Because you are my heart.
So I chose you.

And I will always choose you.

Nice and elegant . Beautiful lines, I love it

But grief hits me like a tidal wave.
I am the candle that loses its flame.
But your memory allows me to linger,
It gradually eases the pain.
