I Got A Name

Dedicated to Jim Croce and family

I Got A Name

"I Got A Name" and I share it with Jim,
This, about Jim Croce, and dedicated to him!
His," Time In A Bottle" oh so very short!
His music soulful; and of the giving sort.

The "Junkyard Dog", brought him much deserved fame!
"Bad Bad Leroy Brown", was to never be tame!
Got lost in his magic of words; in "These Dreams",
Found laughter with all the "Roller Derby Queens"!

"One Less Set of Footsteps" so soon! with him gone.
Have to come down off the "Lover's Cross" and move on.
Can't talk, "I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song".
"Rapid Roy", "New York's Not My Home" for long.

"Operator", I've got " Workin' At The Car Wash Blues",
Because " You Don't Mess Around With Jim", you'll loose!

Jim, I am so impressed with this dedication. How you used his songs in your piece. So good and clever. You know the lovely Tina made a comment on my poem a few weeks back, it made me think of his song "Time in a bottle, so I played it again and remembered how beautiful it was. A man who wrote from his soul indeed. This is such a lovely write. Makes me want to go play more of him. Many thanks Jim for writing such a great dedication 👏 x

Jim so cleverly written and brings back good times when younger, real feel good memories listening to the radio.
And years later he lived such a short life for one so talented and with a unique voice and such a gifted song writer as well.
Full marks Jim and thanks for the memories.

Both a very clever and otherwise, comprehensive dedication Jim .. I was not personally familiar with his music so had to do a bit of research .. it seems his career was tragically cut short and all too soon .. When I first saw the photo of him, for a micro-second, I thought it was of Frank Zappa .. Neville :)
